Integration of Istio with Kafka is limited.
The Kafka Protocol is a TCP level protocol (Layer 4)
Kafka is a binary wrapper over TCP protocol.
Istio mainly supports HTTP/HTTPS on layer 7.
Higher level protocols such as HTTP have access to metadata so they can properly route requests, this is not the case with the Kafka protocol.
